In this guide, I will detail how to change the screen display type between "extend" mode and "duplicate" mode for desktop PCs with multiple monitors and or with a projector. All necessary clicks are highlighted in red to make it easier to navigate and follow along!
How to change display type in Windows 11
Step 1: Access the start menu
- To begin, open the "start" menu in the bottom left corner of your screen.
Step 2: Select the settings option
- Select the "gear" icon labelled "Settings". Please note that you may have to find this in the "All apps" menu. If you still cannot locate it, the keyboard shortcut to open this is "Windows key + I".
Step 3: Click on the "Display" option
- When the settings window opens up, select "Display" under the "System" category on the left, usually opened by default.
Step 4: Select display options
- A small window will appear at the top of the list, showing each of your monitors.
- In the small window that appears click the drop down menu in the bottom right corner.
Step 4: Select which display type you would prefer
- Finally, you can now select which display type you prefer. The two types are detailed below:
- "Extend these displays"
- This option makes it so that both screens are separate, and you can move your mouse between them by moving your cursor or any open programs to the edge of the screen closest to the other screen. IE: Moving your cursor to the right edge to access a screen that is on your right and vice versa.
- "Duplicate these displays"
- This option is most common for projectors as it makes the screen exactly the same on both displays. However be careful when it comes to viewing sensitive data such as Arbor.
- Make sure to "Freeze" your projector before using these systems as duplicating means everything is visible on both screens at once.
Once you have selected whichever type you like, make sure to press keep changes and then you are all done! Simply close the settings window and return to whatever you need!
