Introduction

Effective feedback is crucial for student learning, often involving an iterative process of drafting, receiving feedback, and revising work. Microsoft Teams' Assignments feature is designed to support this dynamic, allowing educators to review, return, and manage student submissions efficiently. This guide will walk you through the process of handling assignments using the feedback loop in Teams.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Access Assignments in Teams

  1. Navigate to Your Class Team:

    • Open Microsoft Teams and select the Class Team where you want to manage assignments.
  2. Go to the General Channel:

    • Click on the General channel within your selected class.
  3. Open Assignments:

    • In the General channel, click on the Assignments tab to view all assignments for the class.

Step 2: Review Student Submissions

  1. Select the Assignment:

    • From the list of assignments, choose the one you wish to review.
  2. View Student Progress:

    • You'll see a list of students along with the status of their submissions (e.g., Not turned in, Turned in, Returned).
  3. Open Student Work:

    • Click on a student's name to view their submitted work in full-screen mode.

Step 3: Provide Feedback and Grades

  1. Add Feedback:

    • In the Feedback box, type your comments for the student.
  2. Assign Points:

    • If the assignment is graded, enter the appropriate points or grade.
  3. Navigate Between Students:

    • Use the arrows to move to the next student's submission and repeat the feedback process.

Step 4: Return Assignments to Students

  1. Select Students:

    • Check the box next to each student's name to select individual students, or use the top checkbox to select all students.
  2. Return Work:

    • Click the Return button to send the feedback and grades back to the selected students. They will receive a notification that their assignment has been returned.

Step 5: Manage Revisions and Resubmissions

  1. Request Revisions:

    • If a student needs to revise their work, you can return the assignment with feedback requesting changes.
  2. Monitor Resubmissions:

    • After a student resubmits their work, you'll see an updated timestamp next to their name.
  3. Review and Return Again:

    • Open the resubmitted work, provide additional feedback if necessary, and return the assignment once more.

Additional Features

  • Assignment Timeline:

    • Set when assignments will be posted to students and decide whether to accept late submissions.
  • Student View:

    • Preview how your assignment appears to students to ensure clarity.
  • Track Engagement:

    • Monitor which students have viewed and turned in assignments to assess engagement levels.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Undo Turn In:

    • If a student wishes to make changes after turning in an assignment but before the due date, they can select Undo turn in to retrieve their work.
  • Late Submissions:

    • Late submissions are marked as Late. You can still review and provide feedback on these assignments.
